In the early 1980's ManyMIDI's founder, Elmo Peeler, did a session for Producer/Guitarist Roland Battista (formerly of 'Earth, Wind, and Fire'). In 2001 Native Instruments released the FM7 software synthesizer, and in 2006 the FM8, which are software versions of the Yamaha DX7. These software programs run as VST, AU, or RTAS plugins, in addition to standalone-mode.
